KS3
Students follow the National Curriculum KS3 ICT. The subject identifies objectives that encourage ambition and provide challenge for all students. Girls utilise their individual creativity to develop practical skills. They have access to exciting software, including Picasa, Google SketchUp, Scratch and Pivot Stick Figure as well as hardware which keep them engaged. The students also use online eLearning systems and mobile technology to promote a culture of life-long learning. The curriculum reflects our changing society; it is relevant, focused, exciting, flexible and future-proof.
KS4
Students follow the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA), a revolutionary paperless qualification from EdExcel. Students critically analyse existing multimedia designs and produce applications of their own, for example collecting individual multimedia elements, such as music, videos, animation or photographs, to create an idiosyncratic new project. Furthermore, students learn the importance of managing, reviewing and testing their work, as well as considering its potential distribution. Multimedia, Graphics, Games Creation and ICT in Enterprise extensions are available. Classroom interaction at St Martha’s is through effective teacher demonstrations and explanations using the latest technology in the IT suite. This offers pupils opportunities to practice skills and is designed to spread the school’s motto.
Sixth Form
Year 12 and 13 students have the opportunity to study OCR A’ level Computing, which gives a much greater insight into the operation of computers and networking systems. This subject provides an integrated study of IT.
Other Sixth Form students are welcome to attend the Computer Centre at any time of the day; help and advice is on offer to help them use IT effectively in their other studies.
