Psychology raises fundamental questions about the human development and mental processes. This subset is now recognised as a science by the exam board and therefore includes an exploration of research methods used in Psychology, such as experiments, observations, social surveys and covert techniques.Summary of benefits: Among the many benefits, this new specification is designed to encourage candidates to:
  • develop a sound understanding of methods and approaches in psychology in the context of the topic areas
  • demonstrate the ability to utilise scientific methodology in the context of psychology
  • use and apply their psychological knowledge and understanding to a range of topic areas
  • develop candidates' critical thinking skills in the context of psychology
  • Students following the following areas in the first year
  • Cognitive psychology, including memory and eyewitness testimony
  • Developmental psychology, including early social development, attachment and the effects of day care
  • Research methods, in the context of the topic areas.
