Religious Education
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 we follow “The Way, The Truth and The Life” syllabus which provides the girls with a good grounding in the key beliefs and practices of the Church. With this scheme of work, other faiths are studied; notably Judaism and Islam with whom we share a common spiritual ancestry.
Religious education is a process of formation. Our work is to educate well, teach interesting lessons, and provide a framework and opportunities for the growth of faith; together with this, we will do our best to maintain warm and harmonious relationships with those whom we teach.
As a department, we are committed to the use of educational methods employed by other subject areas and which are specified in school policy, such as IT, group work, role play and oral work. In the classroom, also, we aim to encourage the pupils to reflect on their own spirituality.
Key Stage 4
In Key Stage 4 all girls take the AQA GCSE. The two modules studied are:
- The Christian Life and St. Mark’s Gospel
- Christianity: Ethics
It is our hope that most of girls will complete the Mark’s Gospel paper at the end of Year 10.

In year 12 the themes that are covered are Human Rights and Social Justice. In year 13 the general topic is Bioethics and the themes covered include; Stem cell research, Organ donors, euthanasia, InVitro Fertilisation and other current ethical issues.Lessons will largely take the form of discussion and debate, but there are a number of assignments designed to prepare them for university.
